Before...
This room lacked continuity and warmth. The fireplace is not getting the attention the attention it deserves as the rooms focal point. The accessories and artwork are placed haphazardly making the room looked cluttered and messy. The blue in the walls clash with the warm, earth tones in the sofa and carpet. The poor lighting also contributes to the lack of warmth.
After...
The yellow and orange/red paint on the walls brings the necessary warmth to this basement room and now compliments the sofa and carpet. The mantle was moved down so it could be attached to the fireplace, and an accent piece of dental molding wood was stained and added underneath, giving it a more robust look. The artwork and accessories were hung according to scale and balance principles, and the collection of bears were grouped together to give them their greatest decorative impact. The tall furniture pieces give the proper weight to this side of the room and together they look like a set. Lamps were added to bring in additional lighting along with positioning the track lights to areas that would illuminate the room instead of just a single spot.
